1977, the great dream

In 1977, Barcelona organised an exhibition, the content of which evidenced the new cultural keys of industrial design. Organised in parallel with the selection of objects for the Delta Awards, Disueño, unlike the Delta Awards, freely accepted objects that were not necessarily in production, but could simply be prototypes which did not fit into the usual production and commercialisation systems, due to their special characteristics. This meant that not only design professionals responded to the call, but also creators who at that time were working in the boundary space between art, design and craft.

The first edition was the one that best represented the postulates that inspired the creation of the exhibition. There were 31 pieces in all, many of which were objects with an undefined use, and the number of unique pieces outnumbered that of the serially produced ones.

The different types of reproductions, however, played an important part in the exhibition, which included loyalty as a valued element in the reconstruction of classic design pieces (such as Hoffman and Rietveld), re-editions of artist-designed pieces of furniture (Giacomo Balla) and modernist works, and replicates which could be placed somewhere between homage and irony.
