"Inspired in Barcelona: A New Decorum" lands at Design Miami

The city of Barcelona makes its debut on the international collectible design scene with the exhibition "Inspired in Barcelona: A New Decorum" at Design Miami, the world's leading trade fair for the sector, which takes place from 6 to 10 December.

"Inspired in Barcelona: A New Decorum" is presented as a conceptual framework where seven creators linked to Barcelona will exhibit their work, highlighting their innovative and disruptive vision. Participants include Antoni Arola, Gonzalo Guzmán, Jordi Ribaudí, TAKK (Mireia Luzárraga + Alejandro Muiño), Turbina (Minerva Capdevila & Mateo Fumero), Josep Vila Capdevila and Sanna Völker. Through their pieces, these designers bring a contemporary and sustainable perspective to the art of receiving and honouring visitors.

These creators, through design and a renewed approach to craftsmanship, reclaim the Mediterranean tradition and, at the same time, promote a commitment to sustainability, boosting the circular economy. All this in the name of a "new decorum", showing respect for guests of this and future generations:

  • Antoni Arola presents the "Barcelona Lamp", a portable work that conceptually projects the skies of Barcelona with a subtle light.
  • Gonzalo Guzmán, renowned for his stainless steel sculptures, surprises with his "Porrón". Through hydroforming, Guzmán uses the same wine injected under pressure to create a unique piece.
  • Jordi Ribaudí presents a piece of furniture that defies expectations with his "Vegan Leather Chair", where he incorporates reflections on the contradictions between appearance and reality.
  • TAKK's armchair stands out for its diverse origin, using recycled materials from ephemeral projects and a wide range of provenances.
  • The Turbina studio presents the pieces "405 - A" and "405 - B", two unique shelves made of clay slabs that refer to movement and the road.
  • With "Lucky Resaca", Josep Vila Capdevila transports viewers to a dystopian world where humanity's only remaining natural resources are its own waste.
  • Capdevila also presents "Breakwave", an armchair that offers a protective welcome, with an imposing, brutalist and eternal presence. The piece symbolises the protection of the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Sanna Völker's "Näkki Mirrors" are an exploration of the traditional craft of mirror making inspired by the Scandinavian legend of Näkki.

The exhibition "Inspired in Barcelona: A New Decorum" demonstrates the richness and innovation of Barcelona's design creators, who continue to challenge the limits of creativity and sustainability in the world of collectible design, consolidating the city as a benchmark in design and avant-garde.

Promoted by Barcelona City Council and DHub, the exhibition is organised by the Barcelona Design Centre and curated by Il·lacions Design Gallery.
