Asunción Bastida. Barcelona and Haute Couture

From 4 November 2026 to 14 March 2027, the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHub) will be hosting Asunción Bastida. Barcelona and Haute Couture, the first retrospective on this pioneering fashion designer and successful businesswoman who made her name among the greats of Spanish haute couture in the 20th century, alongside Cristóbal Balenciaga, Manuel Pertegaz and Pedro Rodríguez. Regarded by the curator as “the Spanish Chanel” for her innovative work, Bastida overcame the obstacles faced by women at a time when society allotted them the role of looking after the home and the family, turning her fashion business into one of the most important in Barcelona and Madrid, recognised beyond Spain’s borders too.
