The value of water

Cooking, cleaning, washing hands, taking a shower... These are activities that we carry out every day without paying much attention, and they all require water as a primary element. For us, these are simple actions, but for how long? This question and the hypothetical answer has led design to try to minimise the waste of water in our homes.

The Value of Water is a temporary exhibition that aims to investigate the ways of obtaining water, an essential element for the functioning of homes in various times and places on the planet, and how these ways resulted in a more efficient use of this resource.

The exhibition incorporates objects from the Collection of Museu del Disseny-DHub related to the water circuit, from collection and conduction to its use and storage, and shows how the difficulty of obtaining water in the past led to a more rational and efficient use.

At the same time, it compiles examples of how current design attempts to reverse water waste in our homes: from controlling the amount of water that comes out of the tap, to devices that facilitate the reuse of surplus water.

This project is part of the programme of activities of the permanent exhibition Matter Matters. Designing with the world, an exhibition that reflects on the great challenges of current and future design at a critical time marked by the scarcity of materials.
