The European Commission has recognized two projects from the Disseny Hub Barcelona's program with an honorary mention at the S+T+ARTS (Science + Technology + Arts) Awards, which celebrate outstanding initiatives at the intersection of science, technology, and the arts.
The highlighted projects were the exhibition Synthetic Memories and the installation Seeing Echoes in the Mind of a Whale, presented as part of The Ocean Speaks. Both were honored for their strong ability to spark critical and transformative perspectives on the relationships between technology, memory, the environment, and collective imagination.
Office of Synthetic Memories, an exhibition developed by Domestic Data Streamers and shown at DHub in 2024, explored how human memories can be generated, interpreted, and reconstructed through data, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. A provocative project that invites us to rethink the future of memory in the digital age.
Meanwhile, Seeing Echoes in the Mind of a Whale, by the collective Marshmallow Laser Feast, is an immersive installation offering a sensory experience designed to connect with the acoustic universe of whales. A work that appeals to environmental awareness and the need to reconnect with the natural world through science and artistic creation.
This dual recognition at the S+T+ARTS Awards highlights the potential of art and design as powerful drivers of critical reflection and social, cultural, and technological innovation.
